Purposes and Types of Fencing You Should Know About
A fence is a self-supporting structure purposely designed to serve as an enclosure or barrier across a boundary. It is different to the wall as the fence is made of posts or stakes joined together by wires, boards or rails whereas the wall is normally made of bricks or concrete that block vision and passage.
Barbed wire fence
This is a type of fencing using a barbed wire which has sharp edges or points arranged at intervals along strands. It is very popular type of fencing as it is very simple to construct and erect. Any person or animal that would have to pass through a barbed wire fence would suffer discomfort or a possible injury. In some cases, barbed wire fences are electrified to electrocute any trespasser.
Chain-link fence
This is a type of fencing made of wires woven together in a zigzag manner causing the diamond shape of interfacing zigzags. The wires are commonly galvanized or made from steel.
Concrete fence
This type of fencing is easy to install and highly durable. They are also commonly used for decorative fencing to accentuate landscape designs of homes and other real properties.
Chicken wire
It is a light mesh of wire usually used to fence poultry and livestock. It is made of thin, flexible galvanized wire, with hexagonal gaps. The light wire mesh is also for keeping predators out.
Electric fence
The electric fence is a type of barrier that uses electricity to keep people or animals from crossing a boundary. The electric voltage may have the effects ranging from uncomfortable to painful or worse, lethal.

Picket fencing is commonly used in outlining a front yard or a backyard. Picket fence is normally 3 feet tall or waist-high. They can be painted and used as decorative fencing.

This is a portable or movable light fence. Usually they were made from wattle or woven split branches, but current hurdles are now made of metal. Hurdles are used for managing livestock or as a decorative fencing for horse racing.

This type of fencing is made of synthetic plastics used in agricultural fencing. They are light, easy to clean and have low maintenance. However they can easily fade, degrade or become brittle after long exposure to too much heat or cold.

Hedge or hedgerow is a row of closely spaced shrubs and other woody species of plants. They are planted and trained to grow in such a way to structure a fence and mark a boundary.
